This image is a not far hike off what I think is one of the most beautiful drives in the world, the Icefields Parkway between Jasper (Jasper National Park) and Lake Louise/Banff (Banff National Park) in Alberta, Canada. The River is named the Bow because First Nation people used the reeds along the River to make bows. Buffalo we’re often hunted in these valleys. The word Makhabn means “river where bow reeds grow”. Icefields Highway is a 232 km/144 mile double lane highway winding along the Continental Divide that takes you right next to glacier icefields, mountain peaks and sweeping river valleys like this painting. Its best travelled during the late spring to early fall for weather but it’s a year round highway (if prepared with the right vehicles) though it will close during extremely conditions. Its just another one of my favorite places. This painting is currently available at Patricia Rovzar Gallery in Seattle.
